About Us
The CAEH is working toward a Canada without homelessness. We are mobilizing communities to take action and are supporting them to apply proven approaches including Housing First and other related best practices to transform programs, policies and systems toward the goal of ending homelessness.
We’re a leading voice on homelessness in Canada and we work with our partners in the private, public and non-profit sectors to build public and political support for the funding and policy change necessary to help communities achieve their goal of ending homelessness.
The Training and Technical Assistance Program is a mission-based, non-profit training and technical assistance program of the CAEH that provides on the ground training and support to communities and frontline workers.
Our Mission
The mission of the program is to facilitate and accelerate the shift to Housing First and other best practices and ending homelessness in Canada by providing high quality, accessible, affordable, evidence-based training and technical assistance.
The program is built off the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s (MHCC) Housing First Training and Technical Assistance program developed from the At Home/Chez-Soi project – the world’s largest research demonstration project of Housing First, conducted by the MHCC. Since then it has morphed into a full-blown training and technical assistance consultancy.
Our Team
Wally Czech
Director, Training
Wally is a recognized expert and leader in Housing First and ending homelessness with over 15 years’ experience in counselling psychology. Wally joins the CAEH from the City of Lethbridge, Alberta where he was the City’s Housing First Specialist for the past five years.
While at the city Wally was instrumental in the development of the city’s Housing First System of Care, program development for several Housing First programs, providing clinical and operational support to funded projects and leading the development of the city’s Housing First Standards of Practice. Wally has provided consultation and training to several communities in their efforts to develop or enhance their own Housing First models and was a contracted trainer for t3 (Think, Teach, and Transform) from the U.S.
Wally has a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and has done clinical work for 15 years. Wally is e based out of Lethbridge where he lives with his wife and three children.
Jody Yurkowsky Pace
National Training Consultant
With over two decades of experience in the non-profit sector, Jody has dedicated her career to supporting vulnerable populations. She has worked with folks of all ages in social services settings and has lived in Latvia, Sweden, Vancouver, Halifax, and Victoria (and a few other places too!)
Jody’s commitment to social justice and dignity for all is at the core of her work and is driven by a deep passion for facilitation and training. She actively contributes her expertise to organizations sharing the same values. As a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Arts in Social Science in Adult Learning and Global Change and a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology, Jody brings a rich interdisciplinary perspective to her practice.
Jody lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and daughter and finds joy in beachcombing for sea glass with her family and living the slow Island life.
Quinn C. Moerike
National Training Consultant
Quinn is a passionate advocate for ending homelessness with a focus on lived and living experience, trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, and model fidelity. A person of lived experience and front-line experience, he brings his love of data and systems to his work, always advocating for the greatest possible impact for those participants and community members that we serve. He strives to always remember the perspective and carry forward the voice of people of lived experience in everything that he does while continuing to champion the importance of model fidelity and evidence-based practice. In this, he truly believes that data is a story told about and for people and outcomes are just another word for impacting lives.
Our Trainers
The Training and Technical Assistance Program delivers expert training through a full-time Director and two trainers with a high level of skill and expertise in multiple areas, as highlighted above. We also carry a contracted faculty of part-time expert trainers who are leaders in their fields and are working in agencies or private practice across Canada. As we work with you to tailor and customize your training needs, we will identify the best trainer option and then have that trainer work with you to finalize logistics and the training delivery.
